Many Italian car enthusiasts here in North America held out hope with the introduction of Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. Finally the label will return after more than a decade’s absence. That was in 2008. With the recent purchase of Dodge by Alfa Romeo‘s parent company, FIAT, it also rekindled the possibility of Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S. If that is the case, then we will be seeing more of this, the Alfa Romeo MiTo. In the sub-compact range and just a tad bigger than its cousin, the FIAT 500, the Alfa Romeo MiTo will offer a multitude of trims that only correlate with its interior appointments but with its powerplant also. To start with, there is the 1.4-liter configurations, an output of 78-horsepower and a MultiAir version that churns out 105-hp. For the fuel efficiency minded crowd, there is one with 1.3-liter JTDM-2 Diesel Engine and respectable output of 95-horsepower. But for those who want a “pocket rocket” and enough “oomph” to chase down a MINI, there is another variant of the MultiAir 1.4-liter. Though this one has the output of 170 horses under its hood. The market for compact cars just got a bit larger.
