There’s obviously one story that defines this week, but for a round up of the happenings the in worlds of streetwear, sneakers, gear, art, and culture, read on. First up was another welcome charity effort, this time by marquis European retailer Oki-ni, who stepped up with a charity raffle featuring some extremely nice prizes. And another chapter in pre-Summer SB mania was revealed this week, with the Brooklyn Projects-designed Reign in Blood Dunk Hi. Other Nike news included a rare appearance by Phil Knight – on the Oprah show. And Nike Sportswear China kicked off the Summer 2011 publicity push at an event featuring some of China’s up and coming artists. visvim dropped a few nice pieces from the SS2011 collection this week, including nice Spring versions of the Juneau Weld shirt. A favorite among the Vice magazine set, Sasha Grey, released her book Neu Sex with an event at the Martha Otero Gallery this week. A major figure in the streetwear, skateboarding, and art community, Benny Gold, opened his new boutique in the Mission District this week, to a virtual who’s who of the SF streetwear world. And from Porsche, we got a glimpse at the upcoming Cayman S Turbo Black Edition, which features a sleek makeover and a performance upgrade. And finally, adding to the mainstream moment that street art is enjoying currently, was the is the CARBON show, at which FUTURA held a live painting demo this week. Oki-ni stepped up this week with an innovative charity project to benefit victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The marquis European retailer launched a charity raffle, with some extremely interesting prizes, including a number of very special one-off items.

Brooklyn Projects x Nike SB Dunk High Reign In Blood

Dom Deluca of Brooklyn Projects decidedly to paid tribute to Slayer with the Nike SB Dunk High “Reign In Blood” edition. The suede upper has been treated to have the appearance of dried blood. Set for a release at some point this month, with an availability of 666 pairs, and a prime candidate for SB-mania.

Nike Sportswear “Sports Is Art” Event Shanghai | Event Recap

Freshness co-founder Dan Hwang was on hand for Nike Sportswear China’s “Sports Is Art” event this past weekend. The event marked the kickoff of Nike’s Summer 2011 campaign in mainland China, and featured lots of limited edition product, based on the art of some of China’s most talented up and coming artists.

Nike Co-Founder Philip Knight On Oprah

Nike co-founder Phil Knight typically shies away from press appearances, but he broke that trend very notably this week with an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show. Knight weighed in on topics both corporate and personal; among the topics of discussion were the death of Knight’s son in 2004, and some of Nike’s most high profile athlete relationships.

visvim May 2011 | New Release

This week brought new releases from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection from Visvim, including the ever popular Juneau Weld Shirt, in a short sleeve version done in plaid. Another seasonally appropriate piece is the gingham check shorts, and the collection is anchored by three colorways of the Virgil Cap Okie-Folk boot.
