If there was a word to describe Kobe Bryant‘s 2011 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, it would be “perseverance”. Assailed with critiques and a fine of$100,000 after his derogatory courtside outburst, Bryant stayed on to complete though subsequent lost to the Dallas Mavericks during this year’s NBA Play-Offs. Despite his lapse in judgement that time, Bryant lived up to his mistake, paid the fine and apologized. The episode also defined Bryant’s characters, who dreamt up the tenets for his signature collection when Nike Sportswear approached him to create one. Hence, named the K.O.B.E. (Know, Originate, Battle, Elevate) Collection.
As with the Destroyer Jacket in the debut product line this Spring, the legendary M-65 Jacket will be pegged as the cornerstone for the Fall and Winter 2011 Collection. Completely resistant to the elements, the outwardly simple jacket is available in one of two colorways, a completely white-out edition along with one that is dark heather gray. The only clues on them as part of K.O.B.E. Collection are shields and emblems on jacket’s left side – Ace of Spade for Philadelphia’s Lower Merion High School, Bryant’s school and a tricolor crest, symbolic for his childhood in Italy plus his Afro-American heritage. In addition, several graphic tees that spell out the definition of K.O.B.E. These and other apparel from the collection will be available at the later part of Summer in time for the Fall/Winter seasons.
