So thoroughly was its redesign, most would not recognize the collaboration between Japanese label NEXUSVII (NEXUS 7) and adidas Originals to a derivative of a pre-existing model. But the black and white canvas low-top was actually the rendition of a classic, the Rod Laver. Named after the Australian tennis great, who retained the #1 world rank for 7 years straight, the Rod Laver was one of the first tennis sneakers in the label’s product portfolio. In the case of the collab, with the exceptions of the Trefoil embossed on the tongue and imprinted on the sockliner, all traces of the label are gone. Even the tread mark on the outsole, which is made of semi-translucent rubber now. Instead, you have a pair of sneakers with a streamlined design. The x adidas Originals Rod Laver Vintage is currently available at select retailers and adidas Originals doors in Japan.

Why take the coolest sneakers ever made (Rod Lavers) and make them look like Converse All Stars?
