L.A.’s UNION has announced that they are now carrying the Japanese label Sacai, becoming the only store in the U.S. to stock the men’s line. If you’ve never heard of Sacai until now, don’t be discouraged — the brand doesn’t do much press. Nevertheless, they’ve managed to amass a cult following. Designer Chitose Abe, an alumnus of Comme des Garcons, started designing menswear in 2009, specializing in knits that combine refinement with modern, whimsical twists: woolen shorts in a Fair’s Isle pattern, a button-down shirt hemmed with an elasticized nylon drawstring. Traditional textures and patterns in the service of fashion hybrids is a recurring theme; craftsmanship and attention to detail is another. The fall 2011 collection is available now at UNION.
