A football club to come from the caldron quite literally, you can trace back the founding of Arsenal F.C. to the Royal Ordnance maker some 125 years ago. Established first by 15 workers from the Royal Arsenal for some after-hours recreation, the club is now one of the most successful franchise with laurels such as the 13 League Championships titles and 10 FA Cups wins.
In the spirit of the cavalry it supplied and the club’s “Forward” motto, Nike and Nike Sportswear will honor those who came before and to come in the near future with the Arsenal 125 Destroyer Jacket. In itself a visual representation of the club’s history, the front appliqué of the letter “A”, an inspiration from Arsenal’s crest of 1949 to 2002, commands immediate attention. That is follow by Victoria Concordia Crescit, or the battle hymn of “Victory Comes From Harmony”, embroidered on the right sleeve. At the end of the very same sleeve, the AFC’s cannon logo from the club’s 1970s era. Subtle references to Arsenal’s past crests continues onto the left sleeve, along with satin-stitched leather appointments in honors of the 1930 FA Cup Final Monogram and the 1952 FA Cup Final Art Deco badge. Turn the right lapel up and Roman numerals of CXXV, or 125, appear in the form of leather, satin and gold accents, a love close to the heart…
In association to this very special edition, Nike and director Ryan Hopkinson created a pair of short documentaries with 4 “Gunners” who revolutionized the game of football. In them, film director Spike Lee unfurl his love of the Arsenals and its hard charging stance of the game.
With only 125 made, the Arsenal F.C. 125th Anniversary Destroyer Jacket by Nike Sportswear will be available starting today at Foot Patrol, NikeTown London, and Nike Sportswear 1948 London space. Go Forward, Forever!
