Known to many as China’s favorite son, star hurdler Liu Xiang will herald his own signature collection on September 1st, 2011. First announced during Nike Festival of Sports in Shanghai, the Liu Xiang Collection is an extensive line with a focus on running that will not only be a celebration of his own accomplishments, but feats to come by future Chinese athletes. Designed in part by Nike, the collection will consist of Nike LunarGlide+ 3 and Nike Free Running Sneakers, each delivering to particular needs of runners. A full range of t-shirts and jacket for both men and women will be available as well, each emblazoned with the special Liu Xiang “flying man” logo, his initials “LX”, and his name in traditional Chinese calligraphy. Designers at Nike also took into consideration Xiang’s preferences. There is a mix of colors, from blue to yellow and earth tone accents on the designs, a point of reference to Xiang’s fondness for the color blue as a child and more subtle colorway as an adult. Another detail is the including of a special pattern, inspired by traditional Chinese knot ornaments.
As part of its introduction, Nike will make 86 limited edition box set of the Liu Xiang Collection available around the globe, the number symbolic to the new world record of 12.86 seconds set by Xiang in 2006. Reserved for VIPs as well as friends and family of Liu Xiang, shoppers will get an opportunity to own a box set too. This coming Monday, August 29th, the first 15 purchasers of a sneakers and jacket set from Liu Xiang Collection at the Beijing Sanlitun Nike Store will join Liu Xiang himself at the exclusive launch event on September 1st. Furthermore, one of the lucky 15 will receive the special box set. For more information, visit the Nike Store at Beijing’s Sanlitun. In the meantime, visit select Nike retail locations to purchase the complete collection in the coming weeks.
