A prolific scorer in his own right and an even better defensive player, Scottie Pippen was able to step out from underneath the shadow of No. 23 during the ’93 – ’94 season, the year Michael temporarily retired from the NBA. Scottie wore the Nike Air Maestro that year, a shoe that Nike has refashioned and just released as the Nike Air Maestro Flight. Now featuring a visible Air unit and modified quarter panel and collar, the shoe still retains the look and feel of a mid- ’90s basketball sneaker. And while Scottie may have earned his own signature shoe without Michael, his legacy is marred by game 3 of the ’94 Eastern Conference Semifinals, in which Scottie willfully sat on the bench in the last remaining minutes of a tied game because Phil Jackson had drawn up a play for Toni Kukoc to take the final shot. So maybe we don’t need the exact shoe from a season that featured both brilliant athletic skill and boneheaded decision making. The Nike Air Maestro Flight is available now at retailers like Premier.
