Sigma SD1 Wood Edition

Sigma Germany presents the SD1 “Wood Edition,” a special version of its high end SD1 digital SLR camera that features a casing made from Amboyna Burl, a rare type of wood from the Padauk tree of Southeast Asia that’s commonly used for the interior of luxury vehicles. Milling, cutting, grinding and polishing the red-hued wood to create the SD1 housing was a process that reportedly took over 60 hours, so it’s little wonder that there were just ten of the kits made, each with a price tag of €9,999 ($13,782). Intended to be a luxury item for photography enthusiasts just in time for holiday gift-giving, the SD1 Wood Edition — without lens — is available to the German market directly from Sigma Germany. via: Photoscala
