Jordan Brand and Nike SB are more dissimilar than they are similar — the former was built on the back (or feet) of arguably the greatest basketball player in the history of the NBA, the latter built after previous failed attempts by Nike at a skateboarding division by simply co-opting an ’80s-era basketball shoe. But what they have in common is their outsize roles in igniting the explosive growth of sneaker culture in the past decade, as well as the relatively large number of models either brand has released that the sneakerhead population exalts as a holy grail. Borrowing a page from the Nike SB playbook, Jordan Brand has taken some of its grail-status models and transferred their likenesses onto a pair of socks. They did it last year with the Cool Grey XI in conjunction with the release of the shoe, and they’re at it again this year, this time a pair of Concord-inspired socks in anticipation of the shoe’s December release. No camping out necessary. They’re available now through Nikestore.com.
