Sure, it hasn’t proven itself on the MotoGP circuit yet, but there is little doubt this bike will be the one to beat in 2012. Introducing the 1199 PANIGALE, the new flagship model for the venerable motorcycle maker DUCATI. In honor of DUCATI’s origin, Borgo Panigale in Bologna, Italy, the 1199 PANIGALE is by far the most extreme superbike made by company. On appearance, the new model isn’t much of a departure from its predecessor, the 1198. Its a different beast beneath it all, however. Thanks to its monocoque body made from lightweight aluminum, the chassis, or lack of, is essentially pieced on and around the engine instead. The practice translates to even more weight saving. Next, the new twin-cylinder Superquardro powerplant with a displacement 1199cc. A maximum limit of 11,500 rpm with 195 horsepower to spare, the engine is one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, V-Twin engine on the market today. With speed must come safety and the 1199 PANIGALE is equipped with some of the most innovative ones. Crafted from a single alloy, the Brembo Monobloc M50 calipers, plus the optional ABS, ensure stoppage within a short distance. And for the first time, LED lights will be use extensively for better visibility. So will the cockpit’s instrument display, a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) screen able to put all essential information in a concise format.
The DUCATI 1199 PANIGALE will come in 2 versions, the 1199 PANIGALE and the 1199 PANIGALE S. Virtually identical, the 1199 PANIGALE S includes the Ohlins suspension with Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES). This edition will also be prepped with lightweight Marchesini wheels, a carbon fiber mudguard for the front wheel, and a aerodynamic kit. Prices for both have not been disclosed yet at this time.
*NOTE* DUCATI unveiled the price range for 1199 PANIGALE Superbike. The base model 1199 PANIGALE will cost around $17,995 US. The 1199 PANIGALE S will be at $22,995 US, while the most exclusive model, the 1199 PANIGALE S Tricolore, will set you back $27,995 US.
