Nike SFB Holiday 2011 Pack

If there’s one thing we sneaker enthusiasts have in common with comic book fanboys and self-professed sci-fi nerds, it’s our unabashed love for a good origin story. (See: Heineken’s problems with its namesake Dunk, or the shark teeth on the Air Jordan V.) An even better example is the Nike SFB (Special Field Boot), inspired by Bill Bowerman, Nike co-founder and famed coach for the University of Oregon’s legendary Track & Field program. Tinker’s younger brother Tobie Hatfield, who has a statue of Bill Bowerman in his office for inspiration, got together with the designers at the Nike Innovation Kitchen to create a shoe in honor of the coach and his time in the 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army. The result is the Nike SFB, an athletic, lightweight boot built for first responders. Synthetic leather overlays and a puncture-resistant forefoot provide durability and protection, while a Nike Free-inspired outsole make these flexible and performance ready. For Holiday 2011, the Nike SFB will come in two colorways: white and medium olive/black. Look for them to drop soon at select Nike retailers.
