Nike’s proprietary Lunarlon sole technology has been steadily percolating through the SB lineup; the Koston One has been utilizing the construction for some time, and now we see it make it’s way into the Paul Rodriguez 5. There were images of a running-specific P-Rod circulating around the web in early October, thanks to pictures that Rodriguez released on his Twitter account of a P-Rod V with a full-length Lunarlon sole (which have not seen a release – don’t count on it either). This new version, set for release soon, are actually skate-specific footwear, with the high-abrasion areas of the midsole featuring more standard skate shoe construction, and the high-impact heel area getting the light weight and superb cushioning of Lunarlon. It will be interesting to see the rubber chosen – Nike’s Lunar soles typically tend towards a foamier consistency, so not really viable for a skate shoe. But given the company’s attention to that type of detail (note Eric Koston discussing rubber compounds), it’s likely to be a good compromise of durability and function. A great looking P-Rod too; vaguely reminiscent of the ACG Lunar Racer Vengeance Terra, with a light leather upper, sport red sole, and signature elephant print Swoosh. Check the images after the jump and stay tuned for release date; it’s a solid leap forward in skate shoe aesthetics. via: NSB.
