Nike Basketball Footwear Design Director Leo Chang will be the first to tell you the challenges his team faced during the development of all Nike Zoom KDs, from I to the upcoming IV. The difficulties are generally the same for all designers of players’ signature footwear – how do you help them maximize their potentials? In Kevin Durant‘s fourth signature footwear, the Nike Zoom KD IV, Chang added a very obvious feature, the new Adaptive Fit system. More than just an ankle strap, the Adaptive Fit system is essentially a sheath for Durant’s foot, providing the utmost lock-down fit with a wrap from the inside of the upper to the sneaker’s exterior. A seamless composite upper with three different materials provide the optimal durability, breathability, and lightweight support. A low ankle collar gives Durant a full range positions and finally a Nike Zoom Air unit provides further cushioning.
As with all other Kevin Durant signatures, the Nike Zoom KD IV will include the various tributes to his team, his friends and family. A lightning bolt pattern tread design not only helps Durant grounded. It also honors his the Oklahoma City Thunders, Durant’s team. Lesser know is the nickname “Big Chucky” inscribed on the heel, a personal “thank you” to his late childhood mentor and coach. Heart-shape initials “WP” and the name “Barbara” are representations of Durant’s staunchest supporters – his parents and grandmother “Barbara”. Lastly, his personal mottos for success, “Work Hard” and “Stay Focused”. The Nike Zoom KD IV for Kevin Durant will be available at retailers worldwide on December 3rd, 2011.
