If mumblecore has star auteurs, Ry Russo-Young is a candidate. The 30-year-old West Village native (today is her birthday) has been instrumental in defining the genre, directing films that eschew any self-conscious attempt at cool credentials, but of course, achieve them in spades. Russo-Young has, in a sense, worked in both fashion and filmaking; she's won critical acclaim for films like "You Won't Miss Me" (which opened at Sundance), and she has simultaneously become a darling of young fashion media, being featured in crossover media like Nylon. And today, V Magazine presents another project that represents her most blatant combination of moviemaking and fashion styling to date, in the short film "The Visit." The short is a study in golden sunlight, softly filtered through a central casting-esque California, and starkly lit dining tables - a la Sophia Coppola. The loose, cross-generational plot revolves around a young couple visiting a grandparent, a semi-gratuitous swimming pool scene, and a plenty of emotionally almost-laden atmosphere. Plus, all of the characters wear clothing from the adidas Originals Blue Fall/Winter 2011-12 collection - a testament to the versatility of the adidas project. Check out the exclusive link to the film - just over 4 minutes - after the jump; great for fans of the up-and-coming Russo-Young, or the mumblecore genre.
