Product (RED) x Nike Sportswear NSW Melton Destroyer Pea Coat | Available Now

Product(RED), the corporate-backed conglomerate aimed at AIDS awareness and eradication, has been the foundation for plenty of interesting products, done with it’s various partner brands. And today, December 1st – World Aids Day – sees the release of a striking Product(RED) Destroyer Pea Coat by Nike Sportswear. The ever-popular Destroyer jacket has shown some versatility here – it’s melton wool body is extended, and given a double row of button enclosures, plus the fold-down collar of the classic sailor’s coat. NSW has given this coat a fully quilted lining, plus an extra front zip to make sure the wind stays out. Exterior pockets are interesting – the Destroyer pea coat mixes the classic leather-lined side-slit pockets of the varsity jacket, and the technical zip welt pockets that are pure NSW. Quality is just as on point as befits the flagship jacket from Sportswear – tanned cowhide sleeves, for example. And the arresting red wool body is fitting given the challenge of the charitable mission of (RED): keeping the life-and-death urgency of AIDS in the developing world relevant, to a world that too often overlooks the ongoing crisis. By any measure though, it’s a unique twist on the staid pea coat – a great bit of color to mix up darker winter outfits.
