mastermind JAPAN announces Spring/Summer 2013 will be its last collection

Before starting mastermind JAPAN, designer and founder Masaaki Honma worked at Yohji Yamamoto for about eight years. Honma has designed his own label since 1997 and he has announced recently that the brand will show its last collection on the Spring/Summer 2013 season. It may come as a surprise to customers and fans, however Honma had been contemplating the end of mastermind JAPAN for some time. Honma would prefer to stop the brand while it is successful rather than to keep going forward until its popularity will eventually decline.

In his opinion, the perfect outcome will be for the brand to retain its popularity, much like the vintage market, and for the value of his products to appreciate over time. This way the brand will live on and his products will be appreciated for many generations to come. He has also mentioned that this outcome will be the best gift he can give to his fans who have supported him and mastermind JAPAN over these years. Although this is sad news for fans, Honma has left a huge legacy and we are sure he will make a return with other projects in the near future. via: Eyescream
