Nike is has reached far back into its extensive archive for its latest retro release, the Nike Tailwind from the late 1970s. The shoe was the first to feature an Air-sole unit, debuting in Hawaii for the 1978 Honolulu Marathon. It was distributed to six retailers in Honolulu, all of whom immediately sold out of the shoe. Word had spread about the new Nike Air technology and runners were eager to try out the innovative cushioning system. The Nike Tailwind went on to a wider release the next year, and gained a following thanks to its breathability and Nike Air cushioning. Look for the reissue to land soon at select Nike retailers.
