Although as individuals they may play for club teams throughout Europe, once they don the famous Les Bleus adorned with the FFF patch they transform into one of the most formidable teams on the international soccer stage. Now, with the help of Nike, the French National Team has a new Away kit for the upcoming 2012 European Championships presented almost entirely in white save for seven thin, obsidian blue stripes on the cuff of each sleeve to represent the iconic French design of the Marinière. The jersey collar also echoes French style with bonded tape around the edge of the short collar and a 3-button down design. The kit includes shorts made with 100% recycled polyester and 96% in the shirts, which leaves the fabric 23% lighter and the world with at least 12 less plastic bottles in landfills for each set made. Nike Dri-FIT technology and laser-cut ventilation is also built into the kits to help to regulate players’ temperatures on the pitch by removing sweat from the body to keep them dry and cool faster than ever before. Inside the back of the neck, a thin red tape represents the red ribbons worn by the French during the revolution of 1789 both celebrating their freedom and honoring the victims of the guillotine. Below the tape is the message “Nos differences nous unissent” (“Our differences unite us”), which celebrates the diversity among the French people. The base layer of the kit includes the Nike Pro Combat Hyperstrong shorts and Nike Pro Combat Hypercool 2.0 top that work to provide additional support, a padded waist, and thigh protection.
