For Spring 2012 adidas Originals is reintroducing a blast from the past — specifically, the 1980s — with the classic ZX 500 and ZX 8000 runners. Originally debuting in 1984, this reissue of the ZX500 stays true to the original, featuring a lightweight EVA midsole, nylon and suede upper, and breathable mesh lining. The classic silhouette comes in three colorways: Pool/Core Energy/Clear Grey, White/Black/Light Scarlet/ and Core Energy/Light Scarlet/White. Its ZX 8000 counterpart made quite an entrance in 1985, setting a world record at that year’s Rotterdam Marathon. The shoe is back this season in two variations, one outfitted in a mesh upper and finished in a striking Black/Super Cyan/Collegiate Purple colorway, the other in sleek full grain black leather with boot-inspired D-ring lacing.
