If the design of the Rennholz - or ‘Race Wood’ in German – alone doesn’t blow you away, probably the fact that this creative low-profile vehicle can hit 15 mph powered only by an electric drills should do the trick. The product of three design students from the University of Applied Science and Arts in Hildesheim, Germany, the project took 10 weeks from initial sketches to its unveiling at the school’s bi-annual race, which only allows vehicles powered by electric drills. The Wooden Racer was first modeled out with aluminum before it was custom-fabricated using only bent plywood and other pieces lifted off of bikes. Capable of running for about 10 minutes using a fully charged drill and simply amazing to look at, it kind of makes you want to re-think your goals for the summer.
