In some ways, Kenzo Takada helped paved the way for Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garcon), Yohji Yamamoto, and even Issey Miyake, when he became the first of few Japanese designers to open a Parisian boutique back in the early 70s. Now, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon are reviving the KENZO marquee once again as its new creative directors and with the same pioneering spirit. One avenue of exploration for the two owners of trendsetting boutique Opening Ceremony is the inclusion of design elements not necessarily from the world of high fashion, such as VANS Era sneakers. Seen on the most recent KENZO’s men’s collection for 2012, the sneakers feature a chain-link graphic in colorway that coordinates with the rest of the collection. There is no official word an on actual release date from KENZO at the moment, but stay tuned to Freshness as more information becomes available.
