UNIQLO Expands To West Coast With Future Flagship Store In San Fransico

Countless speculations on where UNIQLO will open its next North American flagship store came to rest this morning when Yasunobu Kyogoku, UNIQLO USA‘s Chief Operating Officer, indicated future plans for 111 Powell Street in San Francisco. Situated near the historical Union Square, the 29,000-square-foot retail space will be the popular brand’s first storefront out in the West Coast. While there were talks of UNIQLO opening a store in Los Angeles first, Kyogoku stated the high-tech economy in and near the Bay Area as the leading factor in the San Francisco location. Additional resources will be in place, UNIQLO will also move several members from its operational team in New York to the San Francisco area, all to ensure a smooth transition into the new place of business. But this is merely a stepping stone. To fully realize a $10 billion goal in sales by the year 2020, Kyogoku mentioned an national expansion in the near future, with hundreds of smaller stores in areas such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut tri-state region. In the meantime, UNIQLO San Francisco is set to open later this year. via: WWD
