Not only will it be the latest edition honoring the 30th anniversary of Nike‘s iconic basketball sneaker, the Air Force 1. The latest design option to be available on the NIKEiD customization program also adds a humanistic prospective by paying tribute to the storied U.S. Army‘s 10th Mountain Division. Specialized in fighting under less than ideal combat situations and the only division of its kind within the U.S. Army, men of the 10th Mountain Division proved themselves in key battles from Desert Storm to the current campaign in Afghanistan. But the division really lived up to its motto of “Climb To Glory” while reclaiming the mountainous terrain of northern Italy from occupying German troops during World War II. This was also when Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike, served as a Major and with distinction.
References to the olive drab army fatigue, the 10th Mountain Division edition will offer Vintage Canvas and Rough Grain Leather as design options. Plus, already available options like gum rubber outsole, ankle strap in contrast colors, and exclusive dubrets. All set for launch tomorrow, May 1st, on NIKEiD and NikeStore.com online stores.
