You are about to witness what some may pin as the start of a new vision for hip-hop. Away from flashy cars, stacks of cash, and scantily clad dancers, Kayne West and fashion filmmaker Ruth Hogben collaborate to create a mini-film that turns his single, Lost in the World, from West’s fifth album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, into a visual experience that matches that had by your ears. Featuring Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and a set of seriously talented dancers, West and Hogben’s stylish short film presents a new image of West where you can see – with the help of Hogben – his emotion, passion, and the connection with the struggle written in his lyrics. SHOWstudio, who is hosting the video, even goes on to say this is an “arguably feminized vision of West,” which is fitting with their Fashion Fetish project that seeks to display art and film from a female perspective. Regardless of who and where you are, you’ll feel something special after seeing this – even if its just the first cracks in the mold of what you believe a music video should be like.
