Well, it’s finally here — and by “here,” we mean Europe. The Samsung Galaxy S III was unveiled at the Mobile Unpacked event in London and is scheduled for a May 29th European release. Samsung is vague about global release details, while tech blogs report the new Android flagship will land on our shores sometime in June. Will it be worth the (relatively short) wait? The most obvious benefit is the jumbo screen size — specifically, a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a 1280 x 720 pixel count. It’s powered by Samsung’s new 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad processor with 1GB of RAM and runs a customized version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There’s an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9-megapixel shooter in the front, which the phone uses to adjust the screen brightness (the feature is called “Smart Stay”). Additional highlights include S-voice, a Siri-like technology that allows voice control of the phone; Smart Alerts, offering notifications of missed calls or messages; and S Beam, which enables photo and video sharing just by tapping two Galaxy S IIIs together. Stay tuned for pricing info and an exact release date.
