As part of its latest Guest Artist Series project, Stussy presents a video interview with Adrian Johnson. The Liverpool-born artist begins the conversation by stressing the importance of balance between work and personal life. He discusses an epiphany he had a few years back in which he realized he’d been spending too much time on commercial work and creating art from other people’s visions. He felt he had to take a step back, observing “I needed fall in love again with what I do.” The mission was achieved by mining childhood interests — mythology, knights in armor, Ray Harryhausen films — and his later fascination with Mod music, along with the iconography of that era’s record covers. Check out the video below, and see how Adrian’s influences shaped his art current artwork.
