Nike Bowery Stadium NYC Flyknit Collective Workshop 1 | Event Recap

By - May 23rd, 2012

Athletes and innovators convened at Bowery Stadium last Saturday, May 19th, for the first in a series of Flyknit Collective Workshops. Architectural designer Jenny Sabin and Ben Shaffer, Studio Director at Nike‘s Innovation Kitchen, led the workshop with the goal of joining together “movement and creativity to translate the benefits of Nike Flyknit (performance, lightness, formfitting, sustainability) into practical, physical structures that can enrich and transform local sporting communities.” Participants were grouped into teams for a relay race around three New York City locations, using Nike+ and FuelBands to gather motion data for use in Sabin’s Flyknit Collective project. They were then asked to brainstorm ideas in response to challenges posed by Sabin and the Nike team, followed by an overview of the initial data visualizations from the relay run, as well as a look at the outline of the next steps in the process. Workshop 2 is scheduled for July.
