With a penchant to “think outside of the box”, advertising giant DDB went ahead and revived the award winning 2011 commercial for Volkswagen Beetle, then added some real creepy crawlers to the mix. The product is the Volkswagen Bug Run, a real race with real beetles. With Friday Night Lights‘ glam and ESPN-esque animation, the bugs are set loose on a walled tracks within a miniature city. All the while, commentators enunciate colorful commentaries as audience members place bets on the outcome of each heat. No purchases are necessary though the bets are open to those living in Sweden and Denmark. And as for the beetles, they are treated royally with plenty of food, water, and rest in between each heat.
