Internet Underground Music Archive RelaunchingThree revolutionary students, Jeff Patterson, Jon Luini, and Rob Lord, at University of California in Santa Cruz founded the Internet Underground Music Archive back in 1992. The IUMA, as was affectionately known, started simply to provide an avenue to give exposure to bands by allowing free uploading and downloading to music fans. It quickly garnered attention from users, with over 25,000 bands and artists joining the network and uploading over 680,000 tracks online. Over the years, the site was sold to owners who kept it idle, making the site dwindle away and it officially shut down in 2006. The three original founders are planning to resurrect the IUMA, bringing lost music into light and offering the service once again to the public. via: Frank151
