The Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing is a true classic car – far ahead of its time in speed and style. Simply put, it is a legendary car and this latest installment of “Depth of Speed” truly demonstrates why this car is so special with evidence pouring directly from the mouth of a proud owner. Making its debut in 1954 at the New York Auto Show, this Merc is as iconic as it is rare with only 1,500 copies making their way through the production line over its four year life span. The 300SL – with its steel and aluminum body and gas-direct 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder – is largely credited with building the MB image on this side of the Atlantic, but the chances of seeing one rolling down your streets today is incredibly rare. Fortunately, the video below by Depth of Speed captures some compelling footage of the 300SL doing what it was meant to do: enjoying the open road. Enjoy yourself after the jump.
