For countless years consumers have turned to IKEA for affordable TV stands and home theater furnishings, but now the world’s largest furniture retailer introduces the Uppleva, an HDTV home theater system pre-packaged with its own self-branded TV. The base unit includes a “smart” 1080p LED TV, Blu-ray player, media cabinet and a 2.1 virtual surround system with wireless subwoofer. Customers will be able to customize their system, including optional TV sizes ranging from 26 to 46 inches, as well as the size and type of cabinet. IKEA will roll out theUppleva to select European cities this year, followed by a broad launch — including the U.S. — in 2013. Check out preview and launch event videos below.
