A modern derivative of the Greek word “mimema” or “something imitated”, the term “memes” was in fact stated by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene, in which he argued the concept of “gene-centered viewpoint of evolution”. And while Dawkins coined the term in 1976, the concept of “memes” existed decades even centuries before contemporary times, thanks to the advent of Internet and similar communication tool, “memes” are now common occurrences in our modern lives.
