The history of the cell phone can be seen as something of an evolutionary chart, measuring the speed of technology as brick-like handhelds give way to multifaceted smartphones. British designer Kyle Bean charts the progression in inventive fashion, creating a series of 3D models that function like Russian nesting dolls. The most primitive model is the bulky Motorola DynaTAC from the 1980s (aka the Zack Morris special), while the end of the line is occupied by the iPhone.
