The tradeoff for the miserable heat and mugginess of New York City in July are the free summertime events. A prime example is the upcoming Converse City Carnage: NYC, a two-day festival celebrating skateboarding and music set to take place at the Hudson River Park Friday July 20th – Saturday July 21st. The first day will see a skate demonstration at the Pier 62 Skate Park featuring Converse Skateboarding ambassadors Kenny Anderson, Nick Trapasso and the entire Converse skate team. The following day Brooklyn’s finest noise-pop band Sleigh Bells will headline a performance in the field next to the skate park, with JEL and Mr. Dream serving as opening acts. Both events are free and open to the public.
In preparation for City Carnage: NYC, Converse will refurbish the Pier 62 Skate Park, including the replacing of the coping in the bowl, one of the largest of its kind in New York. The refreshed skate park will officially reopen on Sunday July 1st.
The second installment of City Carnage: NYC will take place on Friday August 17th – Saturday August 18th, again at Hudson River Park, featuring a similar skateboarding event Friday and a free concert on Saturday with The Kills, plus an opening set by Converse Rubber Tracks artist VIVA VIVA.
