The first ever Arc’teryx Alpine Arc’ademy took place in Chamonix, France took place over the weekend of June 8 – 10, offering both beginner and experienced mountaineers an array of high mountain skills. Sponsored by the Canadian technical outdoor company, the three day event taught over 70 attendees from around Europe how to build overnight bivvies, how to perform crevasse rescue techniques, and held seminars on local conditions and cultural events, including the impact of climate change on the mountains. Naturally those who attended the Arc’ademy were given numerous opportunities to put Arc’teryx gear to the test, as well as products from Gore-Tex, Scarpa, Petzl, Suunto, and Primus. An accent to the Arete des Cosmiques at the Col du Géant (3365m) was the highlight of the weekend for many, which was led by leading climber Ines Papert and mountain guide Isabelle Santoire. If this sounds like your kind of weekend get-away, check out Arc’teryx’s video of the event after the jump and stay tuned for their second edition of the Arc’ademy, which is scheduled for sometime in 2013.
