This week at the Farnborough Airshow in England, Rolls-Royce unveiled the world’s first jet engine constructed entirely out of LEGO bricks. A half-size replica of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 turbofan jet engine (which typically powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner), the impressive structure is made up of 152,455 standard LEGO bricks and parts and weighs in at a whopping 677 pounds. It measures 6.6 feet in length and 4.9 feet across, and took a four-member team eight weeks to build. The process involved assembling 160 individual engine components, which were then used to create the engine as a whole. It’s on display now at the Rolls-Royce stand in the Innovation Zone at the Farnborough International Airshow. via: GizMag
