Whether adidas was already working on their Primeknit concept or if they rushed development when rumors of Nike’s Flyknit began to surface three years ago, we may never know for sure, but the concept and technology behind them are fairly similar. This adiZero Primeknit boasts a one-piece, digitally-knit upper construction – just like Nike’s – formally throwing adidas’ hat into the sustainability and ultra-lightweight shoe contest just ahead of the brand’s big London Olympics showcase. Therefore, it seems fitting that the shoe fit easily within the U.K’s Team Kit and, at least to start, will be limited to only a U.K.-wide release of 2,012 pairs. Despite all the intricate weaves, all the usual signs of an adidas kick are present, including the Three Strips on the side and on the heel with an unique new tongue design matched on the heel tab. Look for these to drop tomorrow, just as the games begin.
