Along with Charles and Ray Eames’ Molded Plywood seating collection, the Artek Stool 60 is one of the most enduring and incessantly copied design from the 20th century. First seen in 1933, the contemporary creation by Finnish design maven Alvar Aalto is getting a revamp of sort from Rei Kawakubo of COMME des GARçONS fashion label fame. Conceptualized by Villas Kokkonen, the artistic director of Artek, in celebrating his 80th birthday, the Rei Kawakubo x Artek Stool 60 retained all of its design traits, with the majority alterations limited to its appearance of white lacquer and black polka dots. With only 200 units made, the highly collectable design furnishing is now available at Parisian boutique colette.
