When Hussein Chalayan was named the creative director of PUMA in 2008, the notion was that the avant-garde designer would infuse the brand with a fashion-forward edge. His women's lines showcased his ability to use innovative materials finished with colors and graphic prints to dramatic effect, with movement a perpetually underlying current in his creations. Those sensibilities are applied to a pair of new PUMA Disc Blaze styles unveiled at this week's PROJECT trade show, the shoes radically reworked and branded with the Hussein Chalayan name. A tonal black style is joined by a colorway featuring a black base with blue, red and yellow accents. The design keeps the Disc lacing system but replaces the plastic hardware with midfoot straps, presenting a sleek, contemporary aesthetic with lighter weight materials and welded construction.
