The latest entry on Facebook‘s tumultuous timeline is the announcement that they’ve tapped architect Frank Genhry to design an extension to their Menlo Park, CA campus, where the two plan to design the largest open-plan office in the world. Planned to be linked by an underground tunnel, the new facility will be located just across the highway from the existing Facebook HQ and will add space for an additional 2,300 employees on top of their 6,000+. The space itself will include a 420,000 sq-ft single-story warehouse topped with a garden that spans the entire roof, which will be dotted with cafes, micro-kitchens, and clusters of work-stations instead of any cubicles or offices. No details around what this mega-space will cost the social media giant, but it seems all the talk around their stock price won’t deter them from breaking ground in early 2013.
