To welcome the arrival of Hong Kong’s new National Team Kit for 2012-2013 season, Nike Soccer and toy designer Michael Lau created the whimsical “Hong Kong Fight” Foosball Table. While a humorous iteration, the foosball table still embodies many of important elements of Chinese culture. Lau first recreated each member of the Hong Kong National Football Team, but with a creative twist and modeled them into “HK Fighter”, animated dragon-like figures, in honor of Year of the Dragon. Next, Lau added handles from four actual weapons popularized in kung-fu films as the rotating bars. Thoughtfully designed, each of the weapons are in response to player’s position on the table. For example, a striker will have a sword’s handle while a fighting staff will that of the goal tender. Finally, in honor of Nike Soccer, the whole foosball comes alive as a “beast” of some sort, wearing Nike Soccer shorts, large reproduction of Nike CTR360 boots, and Nike Goalkeeper Spyne Pro glove.
The “Hong Kong Fight” Foosball Table by Michael Lau and Nike Soccer will be appearing at various events across Hong Kong throughout the month of September.
