STR.CRD is an annual festival with actives in the area of fashion, music, sneakers, graffiti, skate and dance in Africa. This, it’s third year was held in the young and hip Maboneng Precinct of Johannesburg, South Africa. The events were held over three days from September 27th to September 30th, with the height of the activities on September 29th. Freshness along with an international crew of media, musicians, artists, film makers and tastemakers were invited to partake and enjoy the festivities of this leading African event.
You may already have see CONNECTED, the HGH.STR event studying the styles of Joburg and Berlin. In this set of photos is a recap of activities from the opening party on September 28th, the core event on September 29th and the closing day on September 30th with a basketball tournament sponsored by Nike. In addition we also photographed the style of Joburg and its surrounding areas via attendees of STR.CRD. On the day of the main event, attendees interacted with a number big name sponsors including Nike, Converse, Superga, Dickies, Onitsuka Tiger, Swatch and Super Sunglasses. For those there to consume, STR.CRD offered a number of popup shops including local favorite 2BOP, Bitches Must Know, Babatunde, and even Mutta Shoes from Brazil held shop. On the side of STR.GRAF, graffiti legend CLAWMONEY was the artist in residence. CLAW bombed a number of sights around the city and at STR.CRD, she offered a customizing session with Converse. After the sponsored areas and popup shops closed, STR.MUSIC took over the Maboneng Precinct with a night time block party featuring Jesse Boykins III from the U.S., Just A Band from Kenya and a number of local artists.
STR.CRD is an incredible experience for both locals in South Africa area and an international crowd but is also an eye opener for those yet to see the bustling youth of Africa. We highly recommend making plans to take part in the 2013 festival. For now take a look at our gallery of photos from this past years events.
