While it may not be a direct counter to the recent launch of GoPro's HD HERO3, Contour's Roam2 Action Cam offers a serious alternative for those looking for simple design and a more reasonable price point. The updates begin with one-button recording, which allows you to just slide the locking record/power switch into position to begin capturing your ride, but its worth noting that there isn't a stand-by mode or playback screen ultimately allowing it to capture about 3.5 hours of video. The lack of viewfinder is offset with two lasers on either side of the 170-degree wide-angle lens that can be flashed to show its field of view allowing you adjust the camera within its secure case. The ROAM2 is also waterproof down to 1 meter by itself meaning you can take it off-road and on the water on a kayak, jet ski, or canoe. Inside, the ROAM2 records at 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps video into its 4GB microSD card. Outside, the ROAM2 sports an aluminum skin of colors: black, red, and blue as well as a green that will be exclusively available through Amazon. If you want one, they'll hit electronic retailers beginning on October 21.
