Finished in a rich crimson hue with black accents, this "Motorboat Jones" edition of the Air Jordan IX -- originally believed to be a December release -- is now slated for an early November launch. The shoe's moniker comes from the fictional Motorboat Jones, a mysteriously gifted player from the Billings Bandits. He represented just one of the personas created by Nike's marketing team to act as the face of MJ's ninth signature shoe (Bentley Ellis being another) while his Airness took a break from basketball to learn a new skill set: to wit, the vagaries of hitting a breaking ball as an outfielder for the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Celebrate a curious moment in the Air Jordan saga and grab a pair of the "Motorboat Jones" Air Jordan IX when they hit store shelves on November 3rd.
