Volkswagen has revealed its latest entrant into the growing compact SUV ranks with the Taigun Concept at this week’s Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. Although on the inside it looks pretty futuristic, the exterior looks pretty contemporary and production-ready. Interestingly, the Tiguan is based on the Golf V platform and uses VW’s “New Small Family” front-wheel-drive system, which is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-banger producing 110hp and 129 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to direct fuel injection and a turbo combine and the fact that it weighs in around only 1 ton, VW claims it can reach well over 50 mpg. Currently there are no plans for this mini-crossover to hit North American shores, but if the Taigun sees its share of success in Europe, Asia, and South America in the coming years, U.S. buyers can expect to kicking the tires of another VW with a funny sounding “T’ name.
