The latest installment of http://hermanmiller.com/” target=”_blank”>Herman Miller‘s http://freshnessmag.com/tag/why-design/” target=”_blank”>”Why Design” series touches down in London, home base for industrial designer Sam Hecht and architect Kim Colin, founders of the design studio http://industrialfacility.co.uk/” target=”_blank”>Industrial Facility. The husband and wife team bring opposing elements to their work, with L.A.-born Kim carrying a “macro” view of the world formed in part by her training as an architect, while native Londoner Sam maintains an exacting attention to detail. Sam notes that it’s a necessary dynamic, observing “We need contrast and tension to be able to create.” The balanced approach to their work has resulted in products — like the Enchord Desk and Mattiazzi Branca Chair — that place a premium on simplicity and elegance.
