Wes Andersons Star Wars: Episode VII Audition Tape | Video

Now that we’ve learned Star Wars: Episode VII is in development, the big question around Hollywood is, Who will direct the blockbuster film? Conan O’Brien recently gave us a bit of insight into the conundrum, going so far as to reveal an audition tape from indie art house darling Wes Anderson, director of The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom. While we’re big fans of the filmmaker’s work, critics are apt to identify a level of whimsy that borders on preciousness in Anderson’s oeuvre, along with a preoccupation with aesthetics that becomes almost distracting. The auteur’s signature flourishes are evident in the faux Star Wars audition reel, highlighted by vintage props and quirky dialogue. One thing Anderson gets right — Han fires first.
