Now that we’ve learned Star Wars: Episode VII is in development, the big question around Hollywood is, Who will direct the blockbuster film? Conan O’Brien recently gave us a bit of insight into the conundrum, going so far as to reveal an audition tape from indie art house darling , director of The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom. While we’re big fans of the filmmaker’s work, critics are apt to identify a level of whimsy that borders on preciousness in Anderson’s oeuvre, along with a preoccupation with aesthetics that becomes almost distracting. The auteur’s signature flourishes are evident in the faux audition reel, highlighted by vintage props and quirky dialogue. One thing Anderson gets right — Han fires first. Check out the video below.
