Horror film classics like Night of the Living Dead, current hits such as The Walking Dead, and even to some extent Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, have all reassured us our odds of survivability in the face of a zombie apocalypse. World War Z, a new film with Brad Pitt, will diminish all such notions. Directed by Marc Forster, best known for his works in Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, and The Kite Runner, World War Z highlights United Nations researcher Gerry Lane and his efforts to locate the source of a zombie pandemic. Based on the 2006 novel written by Max Brooks, son of comedic king Mel Brooks, World War Z is also a social commentary on modern society, political apparatus, and the attributes we all have. But the most alarming aspect of the film is how it presents the undead. Instead of slow moving hordes of zombies with lesser intelligence, World War Z introduces a moving wall of rotting flesh and a collective instinct to hunt for fresh food source instead. Just imagine a mob of several thousands, rushing towards you at breakneck speed, and all wanting to eat you alive… Said to be one of the most expensive production in zombie flick history, World War Z will be in theaters near you on June 21st, 2013.
