Similar to A BATHING APE and others related labels, AAPE by A BATHING APE utilized a special collaboration to highlight its new Fall/Winter 2012 Collection. This season, it designed a set of hooded sweatshirt, sweatshirt, and sweatpants with US’ sportswear brand Champion. First established near a century ago in Rochester, New York by Simon Feinbloom and his two sons, Champion was, for many years, the official outfitter for the NBA and US national teams during the Olympics. Mostly known today as a supplier of base layer and training apparel for athletes, Champion actually helped to create the sportswear category. It was the first company to introduce the comfortable reverse weave clothing, the practical reversible t-shirt, breathable mesh, and sports bra. Then there was the hooded sweatshirt, more commonly known as hoodie, which Champion first launched in the 1930s to keep workers warm during winter.
